OED has partnered with Chevron to award four (awarded to one student in each of Utah's four congressional districts), $5,000 scholarships to 11th and 12th grade students across the state that are pursuing a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) based degree at a Utah institute of higher learning. To be considered, students are asked to produce a 5 minute, non-persuasive documentary exploring some aspect of Utah's energy workforce. Anything from oil/gas and coal, to wind/solar/hydro and geothermal, to non-fuel minerals and energy efficiency technologies are acceptable topics for the documentary. The film should highlight one energy resource and explain how it works and how that resource helps drive Utah's economy. Using oil as an example, an applicant could show how it is extracted/produced, transported, and then refined to be ready for the gas pump.
